STATE SEAT BELT LAW TIGHTENED
Free Brochure Available to New York Drivers

White Plains, NY – November 20, 2000 |  A tough new seat belt law takes effect in New York State on November 28th that improves seat belt safety for children in passenger cars.

The new seat belt law requires all passengers under the age of 16 anywhere in the vehicle to be buckled up. Previously, only children under 10 were required to do so.

“It’s more important than ever that New Yorkers are aware of the seat belt safety measures they need to take while driving,” said Mory Katz, Chairman of Response Insurance, a direct-to-the-customer auto insurer that focuses on responsible drivers. “With the holidays upon us, more shoppers on the road and the roads themselves more treacherous due to inclement weather, proper use of seat belts and child safety seats are critical.”

To help call attention to the seat belt law change and provide helpful tips on seat belt safety and car seats, Response Insurance has produced a free brochure, “New York’s Seat Belt Law & Child Safety Seat Guide,” which can be obtained by going to the Response Insurance website: www.response.com or by calling their toll-free number 1-800-610-5928.

The brochure includes information about properly securing children and infants, the exemptions to the rules and the penalties imposed for failing to comply with the law.

The Company joined forces on this driver education effort with the New York Coalition for Transportation Safety, the Queens county Borough President’s office and Safe Kids, who will also be distributing the brochures through their network of affiliate organizations throughout New York State.
