Auto Theft Prevention
Every 20 seconds, someone steals a vehicle in the United States. Don't
let one of them be yours. Here's how you can cut the chances
of being a victim of auto theft:
- Use a steering wheel lock.
- Install a car alarm - preferably one with a kill switch.
- If you are buying a new vehicle, look for one with an electric key
system, which also has a built-in car alarm and automatic
anti-theft system.
- Never leave your wallet or anything else in your car that
might entice a thief.
- When using a valet service, give them only the ignition key.
Most vehicles now come with a valet key for that purpose.
- Never place your vehicle keys on the same ring as the keys
to your residence.
- Never use a "hide-a-key."
- Whenever possible, park in well-lighted areas.
