Emergency Kit Essentials
What every driver should carry
- Spare tire (check it regularly to ensure it’s fully inflated)
- Working jack
- Lug wrench
- First Aid Kit for medical emergencies
- Reflective triangles to set out on the road or flares
- Jumper cables
- Flashlight with working batteries
- Insurance ID card, car registration, any motor club cards
- Pen and paper
- Fire extinguisher (A, B, C type)
- Local map of the area
- Extra fuses
- Duct tape, wire and bungee cords for quick fixes
- Sheet or cardboard in case you have to crawl under the car
- Brake & power steering fluid
- Oil & transmission fluid
- Anti-freeze
- Water
- Tools (screwdriver, pliers & adjustable wrench)
- Empty gas can (never carry gas in the car or trunk)
- Cell phone — but don’t use your phone while driving
- Walking shoes
And in winter…
- Snow brush
- Ice scraper
- Windshield washer fluid with de-icer
- Small shovel
- Sand or cat litter for traction
- Blanket for personal warmth
