Dropping temperatures signal the time for you to winterize your pool for the cold weather ahead. Following these suggestions should help protect your investment and enjoyment for the next summer season. You should check with your
pool manufacturer for recommendations on winter care. Here are a few helpful tips.
Clean it
Thoroughly clean and vacuum the pool and clean the strainer basket and skimmer.
Level it
Expanding pressure from frozen ground water may cause severe damage, so follow manufacturer’s instructions on the proper water level to drain.
Test it
Test the pH level and "shock" the water with chlorine if the manufacturer recommends it. The proper pH level and chemical balance can help prevent staining and algae growth.
Close it
Close the valves on the skimmer. Make sure water does not accumulate and freeze in the skimmers. Drain all water in the heater filter, pump and piping system.
Cut it
Cut off all power to the support equipment and turn the electric circuit breakers to the "off" position.
Remove it
If you have a slide or diving board, remove it and store it in a clean, dry place.
Lock it
All pool areas should be enclosed with a fence at the height compliant with local and state code with self-closing and self-latching gates to prevent unsupervised access by children. All gates should be kept locked at all times the pool is not in use.
